Paul Brown – Managing Principal
Paul Brown is a recognized authority on the management issues companies’ face when going through a period of transition or change. For more than twenty years he has advised a broad spectrum of start-ups, lower-middle and middle-market businesses operating in a variety of industries including medical, finance, construction, retail, professional services, communications, manufacturing and technology. In recent years his work has extended to family business consulting where he covers the same strategic, growth, management, transition and succession issues tailored to the unique challenges of the family enterprise.
On more comprehensive assignments, Paul works as an “interim manager,” where he has served as CEO, COO, CMO and other senior management positions for limited and focused assignments.
Paul has worked with clients throughout the continental United States, Hawaii and Europe. Prior to forming BROWN ADVISORS, he worked at Moss Adams LLP, the largest accounting and consulting firm in the western part of the United States, where he directed the ownership succession and strategic planning services in the Spokane, WA office. At BROWN ADVISORS he oversees the general direction of the practice while providing senior level oversight to our work.
Paul is a published writer and a frequent conference and seminar speaker. He has a graduate degree in leadership and organizational renewal, advanced certificates in business process modeling, and is a proud member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association.

Peter Sutherland has over 25 years’ experience as an owner/entrepreneur, general manager, marketing and sales management and various engineering assignments in high technology manufacturing companies. He has served on the Board of Board of Directors of several companies and is an advisor to several others. Since 1987 Pete has completed a number of acquisition and divestiture transactions for his clients, most of which have been have been accomplished by targeting strategic buyers who were willing to meet the expectations of the sellers. He has also assisted various clients in areas such as strategic planning, market research, business development, corporate strategic alliances, technology licensing and transfer for domestic and international clients.
Pete’s clients include Fortune 2000 businesses, lower-middle and middle-market companies, and start-ups. He also represents venture capital and investment banking sources in market validation, company valuations and due diligence efforts.
Pete has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Alfred University and a Masters in Business Administration Magna cum Laude from Pepperdine University. He has been a member of IEEE, AEA, AMA, MIT Enterprise Forum, Churchill Club, US Distance Learning Association, National Association of Venture Capital, Santa Barbara Economic Development Group, and Santa Barbara County Private Industry Council. He has also been a speaker and a panelist at several wireless communications and venture capital forums.
James D. Rockenbach
Jim Rockenbach has over twenty-two years of global sales management, market strategy and business development experience. Jim has a well earned reputation for building, leading and mentoring cross-functional sales and business development teams that consistently reach new levels of performance and growth. As the founding partner of FastFire, Jim developed the innovative and effective “market capture” system, introducing it to PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP, Merck, Eli Lilly, Morgan Stanley, SunGuard, Fidelity Investments and other world class global leaders. The “market capture” process helps companies help identify and create strategic marketing partners leading to high growth. He is a published author and frequent university lecturer and attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Most recently Jim has been instrumental in introducing newly patented medical protocols and devices medical equipment in the U.S. market.
